My interview went well; now what happens?

The recommendations of the interview panel are given to the Chapter (the governing council of the Order) at its next regular meeting. You will be advised in writing of the decision reached by Chapter regarding your application. Success at this stage means that you will become a Candidate. A member of the Order, appointed as your mentor, will contact you shortly thereafter.

What does the mentor do?

Your mentor becomes your immediate point of contact within the Order. He or she is there to answer any questions you may have about what is expected of you as a member of the Order, to give you an idea of the organisation of the Order and an explanation of the various terms and titles used, and to recommend some suitable reading. Your mentor remains as your guide and confidant while you are a candidate and advises Chapter on your progress and suitability for promotion.

How long will it take before I become a Knight Templar?

Elevation to the knighthood is not automatic nor can it be taken for granted. Becoming a Knight Templar is a commitment for life and so the Chapter has an obligation to make the right decision when accepting anyone into the Order and deciding whether he or she is ready to become a Knight or Dame. However, given that you have been selected for advancement, the process will normally take a year or two, depending on the individual's circumstances. Promotions occur once a year, at an Investiture Ceremony held in conjunction with the Order's Annual General Assembly, which is usually convened in the autumn.

Can I withdraw my application if I change my mind?

You have the option to withdraw your application at any time without having to give an explanation for doing so. Similarly, the Order can decide not to proceed with an application and is not obliged to give a reason either; you will be advised in writing should this occur.
