The Autonomous Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem was formerly a founder member of the Magisterial Council and left cordially in 2008.
It is, as it was a Christian Military Order that looks to do good work and charitable acts.
The image of the Knight in shining armour reminds us of an age of chivalry in the Middle Ages, memories of truth and honour and living to the knights code. Today, the title Knight is now sometimes given to someone for services to government or country, they do not wield a sword, but accept the honour as an acknowledgement.
The original Order of Knights Templar had a code of conduct of the highest standard, that is: - unselfishness, courtesy and consideration to the weak. They lived in poverty as monks, giving up all their possessions, yet fought without fear of their lives to protect others, the weak, poor and, the sick. Their history is honourable, glorious and ultimately they were destroyed by ignominy. Thank goodness the truth has been recently uncovered.
There may be fewer damsels in distress nowadays, but the chance for doing good is always there. For taking a stand, speaking out, lending a hand, and making a difference in a thousand ways. Its not always easy, many pass on the other side, pretend not to notice, some see, but fewer act.
Today by taking up membership of the Order, they seek to remind people of how things were, the sacrifices made by others, and that chivalry is not dead, it is in fact part of the answer for today.
